José Ramos Santana is one of the most oustanding pianist of his generation. Hailed by The New York Times in his performance of Roberto Sierra’s "Glosas" for piano and orchestra in the "Sonidos de las Americas Festival" at Carnegie Hall as "powerfull....brilliant performance", Mr Ramos Santana has established his career appearing as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Moscow Phiharmonic, L'Hermitage Orchestra of Saint Petersburg and the orchestras of Detroit, Saint Louis, Baltimore, Rochester, Utah among others.
His recital work has taken him to Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, China and Japan, across United States and Central and South America. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he is a graduate of the Juilliard School where he studied with Adele Marcus, Sylvia Rabinof, further coaching with Leon Fleisher and Alicia de Larrocha. A prize winner in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition he has appeared in the Spoleto, Caramoor, Grant Park, IKIF, Casals, Amalfi Coast, Saarburg festivals. He has collaborated with musicians such as Krystof Penderecki, John Adams, Tania Leon, Arto Noras, Dennis Rusell Davies. He has recorded for the Radio Svizzera Italiana in Lugano Switzerland, Fleur de Son and Naxos labels .
Feature in TV documentaries at PBS, CBS Sunday Morning, Casals Festival 50th Anniversary, Arts and Entertainment Channel, Jose Ramos Santana is the founder and artistic director of the Puerto Rico International Piano and String Festival (Puerto Piano & Strings).
He is an Artist Faculty at the Steindthart School of NYU and the Head of the Keyboard Department at the Hartt School, University of Hartford.
