Wei Chen is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Piano at New York University Shanghai (NYU Shanghai), where she teaches piano performance, keyboard harmony, and theory. During her time at NYU SH, she has designed and developed six music-related courses, contributing significantly to the university’s music curriculum.
Chen earned her Master of Music in Piano Performance from New York University (NYU) with a full scholarship, studying under Professor Eteri Andjaparidze—former faculty at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory and currently a professor at NYU and the Mannes School of Music. While at NYU, she served as a piano instructor at the Steinhardt School, teaching both elective piano lessons and group piano classes.
Before her studies in the United States, Chen graduated with a full scholarship from Xi’an Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Professor Vladimir Zanin and Professor Niu Bin.
Chen has performed in various distinguished venues, including: The Frederick Loewe Theatre concert recording series in New York City, NYU Steinhardt Two-Piano Concert, NYU Septodont Concert, NYU Black Box Concert, Concert performances at Queens College and Columbia University.
In China, she has held performances at major concert halls in Shanghai, Xi’an, Hefei, and Zhengzhou. Additionally, she served as an opera répétiteur at Xi’an Concert Hall and Shaanxi Opera House, where she participated in city concert series, opera productions, and music season performances, including Puccini’s Turandot and various art song recitals.
Many of Chen’s students have been admitted to prestigious institutions, including: Manhattan School of Music, Mannes School of Music, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Southampton, Longy School of Music.
With extensive experience in both performance and education, Wei Chen continues to cultivate and inspire the next generation of musicians through her dedication to piano instruction and artistic development.
