Eligibility and Application

1. The festival programs and competition are open to musicians and music enthusiasts of all nationalities, subject to the age and qualification requirements outlined in the application form.

 

2. Our 2024-2025 season festival and competition are now open to applicants in the Piano, Strings, and Voice categories.

3. All applicants must submit a completed application form, video link, and application fee by the specified deadline.

4. The online application portal will be open from September 2024 until February 28, 2025.

5. Results will be announced by March 16, 2025. Late applications may be placed on a waitlist.

6. Space in the festival programs is limited and allocated based on both talent and a first-come, first-served basis. We strongly recommend submitting your application as soon as possible to secure a place.

7. Masterclasses (online or in-person) are available upon request. Options can be found in the application portal. Click APPLY to submit your request.

Festival Regulations

1. Qualified applicants who pass the application, would be able to attend the Festival programs which will take place over the course of the 7-day event in China.


2. Qualified applicants who passed the application would have the eligibility to exempt from the first round of our partner competition the Classic Music Awards International Competition, the winners of our competition will receive invitation letters to perform at our prestigious Ceremony Concerts at Carnegie Hall or Lincoln Center in August 2025, in New York City.


3. Any changes to the repertoire after the application deadline are subject to the approval of the Festival management and should be done at least 45 days prior to the Festival starting date.


4. All performances must be played from memory, except for music written after 1900.


5. The decisions of the jury are final and non-negotiable.

Music Study Abroad Summer Program


Select one piece from the following four major musical periods. A single movement from a larger work is acceptable.


Baroque Period: 1600–1750
Classical Period: 1750–1820
Romantic Period: 1820–1900
Contemporary Period: 1900–Present

Chinese Music and Culture Summer Program


Select a piece of Chinese music. A single movement from a larger work is acceptable.

Please feel are free to choose works from any form or period for the Preliminary Round. There are no restrictions on the style or era of the selected piece(s). You may record one or two pieces, with a total duration not exceeding 10 minutes.

Video Requirements

1. For instrumental applicants (Piano/Strings), all performances need to be memorized, except for western music composed after 1900 (not including Chinese music) could be performed with a score. For vocal applicants (Voice Solo/Choir), all performances need to be memorized.


2. Record in a quiet environment. Instrumental applicants must submit a full-body shot, while voice applicants may use half-body shots. No post-production editing of sound or visuals is allowed.


3. Each performance must be recorded using a single device, positioned at a fixed point, capturing the entire performance from start to finish without interruption. Acceptable devices include phones or video cameras. Please record in landscape mode and avoid using beautification or adjustment features.


4. Performances may use live or pre-recorded instrumental accompaniment, but the accompaniment must not include the sound of the applicant’s part.


5. The deadline for submitting recordings for festival programs is 24:00 on February 28, 2025. The deadline for the preliminary round of competition submissions is 24:00 on December 10, 2024. The deadline for the final round of competition submissions is 24:00 on December 31, 2024. Recordings should be submitted via the online application form or by providing a link via email (Chinese emails are acceptable).

General Provisions

1. These regulations govern the participation, conduct, and operations of the Forte Yearly Music Festival.
2. By participating in the Festival, all contestants, performers, and associated personnel (hereinafter referred to as “Participants”) agree to comply with these Regulations.
3. The Festival organizers reserve the right to amend these Regulations at any time. Notice of amendments will be communicated to Participants in a timely manner.
